Happy Monday!

This is a mandatory, I am still alive post, because I haven't posted something on almost 2 weeks.

No I have not been ill, just in a personal cyclone of craziness. Last week I had a tricky day off, a falling grandpa who ended up at the hospital for a day, and the sudden urge to move our offices downstairs into an empty suite.I may still request this until we  get an official home of our own. I also have been constructing a blog, which is harder than I thought it would be.

Friday, I hung out with my grandparents while trying to put off more homework.

Saturday, I completely cleared out my DVR, which is not only a massive amount of Television but also so much drama!

Sunday, I spent a lot of the morning putting of homework and then went out to see Jupiter Ascending and eat dinner with a friend.

Now it is time for me to:
  • Go back to work
  • Write a poem of sorts for tonight's class
  • Finish up this other blog of mine so that I can get a post out.

Think About It Thursday: What Love Means to Me

In 2 short days, I will have been single for over 4 years. That means that I have spent the last 4 Valentines days being a single gal. Amongst my list of really Awesome Holidays, Valentines day is no where to be found. Talk Like a Pirate day and Christmas definitely, but not the day dedicated to St. Valentine.

Please don't mistake this for me being Anti- Valentines day, because I'm not. It's just not one of my favorites. I will probably wear black, because 3/4 of my wardrobe is nothing but. I will probably be irritated by the fact that some guy bought over priced roses for his wife and had them sent to the office. Many say that it's a day that has been singled out for love, and that you should tell people that you love them every day. Maybe it has become some Hallmark Corporate Holiday where companies want you to buy mass amounts of candy.

To that I say, what girl doesn't want copious amounts of chocolate??? Also, I love the cheesy, sappy Hallmark Movies where the guy gets the girl in the end. It gives me an incredible amount of hope sometimes. In the end it is all about the love.

There are at least 3 different saints by the name of Valentine or Valentinus in the Catholic Church. All of which were considered Martyrs. One story is that Valentine went against his Emporer when he realized the injustice of a marriage ban, and as a priest wed young lovers in secret. His actions discovered and he was put to death. Another story tells that Valentine was helping Christians flee Roman prisons, and that the first Valentine was sent from him to a girl he had fallen in love with while imprisoned. It was simply signed From Your Valentine.

These two martyrs understood the power  of love, and why it is so important to have in life. Even in the dystopian books where the world and all emotions have been stripped away, it always comes back to love.

So, What does Love Mean to Me?

It Looks Like This:

Unconditional - Accepting- Forgiving me for my faults- And never hogging the blankets.

It feels Like This:

Exciting- Bright- Unpredictable- Adventurous- Happy

It Means This:

Through the good and bad, no running. It's there no matter what, and fights like hell to stay around.

What does love mean to you?

5 Things I Will Always Be

As I was flipping through the number of wonderful posts, that were beautifully crafted during my 3rd cup of coffee yesterday morning; I came across a wonderful idea.

Now I have thought that I had quite a few wonderful ideas lately, but I hated every single one of them. And not like a I am just going to stop and come back hate, more like I need to delete this immediately.

Nicole however, always has the most perfect ideas. And when I saw her 11 Things I'll Never Be, I thought it was BRILLIANT! But there are many things that I will never be, and very few that I will always be.

So here are 5 things I will always be:

1.) I  will always be in decisive. I am one of those horrible people that you will meet that will NEVER know what they want for dinner.

2.) I will always be able to fall asleep anywhere. At a table, as a passenger in a car, or even in a sitting chair, it is a family trait that we can fall asleep in any condition.

3.) I will always be the person who requests the piece of cake with the blue frosting. My inner child can't help it.

4.) I will always be sarcastic. Chances are I will throw in a sarcastic comment in any conversation. It could be a simple "NNOOO" or it could be a little bit wittier than that. Just think of me as the Chandler Bing of the group.

5.) I will always be the socially awkward friend. You all have that one friend, that laughs randomly or trips over thin air. I am that friend. I accept my fate.

What are some of the things you will always be?

Confession Session

-That is totally a picture of my white board standing desk. Because only 2 sticky notes have been murdered this week. I call that a small victory.

- It's a Thursday, and I really feel like it should be Monday. My brain is in a bit of a fog and just does not want to work properly today.

- Today I dislike everyone at work strongly. Not Everyone.... but specific people.

- I get my tax return back tomorrow (YAY!) but a good portion of it is already spent because the phone I sent back to Verizon for their edge program was shattered. And because I am a nice sister I am not making my brother pay for it.

- I have to create a new blog for my Marketing in Social Media Class. I asked if I could use mine, but my teacher was wary about it and wanted newer data. So I am all game with making a new one. While I have to do a bunch of it, because hello homework, I am thinking that it would be awesome and beneficial to have a co-author or two on it, and keep it going afterwards.

- I plan on giving my blog another face lift. But this time with professional help from my lovely friend Emily. So get ready for that!

- I am so leaning against a stool today versus standing. I think it is because I really just want to take a nap, but I am so not up for this standing desk today. I love it, but don't have to like it.

- This is going to be short and sweet, because I want it to be.

My Ikea Hack: Stand Up Desk

If you didn't see it on instagram, I am testing out a new office lifestyle. Standing up while working! I got this simple hack from Megan and decided to put my own twist on it. Since I knew that I was going to be doing this project I traveled to the land of Ikea, at the beginning of what would be a really busy Saturday and bought all of the necessary supplies. Sunday morning when I woke up to the fog of terror, I knew that I was not going to do anything outside anytime soon. So what better time than that to put on a chick flick and use some power tools?
Thanks Seattle for the crazy weather!

What you need:
2 Ikea Lack side tables (Mine)
1 set of two Wall Brackets (Mine)
1 Ekby Viktor wall shelf (Here)

Added:
Bygel Rail (Here)
Bygel Containers (Here)

Essentials:
Screws: preferably a flat top screw.
Drill : Fully Charged!

First things first. Take the table that you are using for your keyboard stand, and attach the shelf brackets to the legs first. I did mine the shorter length side and placed them all the way at the bottom of the leg. If you are taller than 5'5" than you may want to put it a little higher. You should attach the legs to your table, and then attach the shelf to the brackets.

** I put the shelf on my desk and then flipped my Ikea table over with the table upside down so that I could easily screw together the shelf.

For the second table all I did was screw the railing into the top portion of the table using smaller screws. I got halfway through the last screw and then... my drill battery decided to die a slow and painful death. So there I was watching the last 5 minutes of Meet the Robinsons, waiting for just enough drill power to finish.

Monday came along and I took it into work. The hardest part of this adventure was trying to get the tables to fit in my car! But, everyone in the office has since come up to my desk to see my crafty little DIY. And now I see the wheels turning on how they can do it for their desk.

The differences from Megan's hack and mine were the actual tables. I used a high gloss white so that I could make the top into a white board. I wanted a way to stop using so many damn sticky notes, and this seemed like a reasonable solution.

My overall cost ended up being $71 (rounded up) because I bought the high gloss tables, fancier brackets, the railing and buckets, screws, and a little lamp that clips onto surfaces. But if you did the basic tables and a basic bracket it should only cost you $30 total.

What do you think? Would you be able to stand at work all day?
